Role Overview:

Could you be our next Manager, Benefits & Retirement? Globe Life is looking for a Manager, Benefits & Retirement to join the team!

This role is responsible for serving as the organization's subject matter expert and strategic leader for all benefit and retirement programs, including health and welfare plans, 401(k) and pension plans, wellness initiatives, and time-away-from-work programs. The position oversees the long-term strategic vision, compliance framework, and operational excellence of all benefit offerings, while partnering with senior leadership, vendors, auditors, and internal stakeholders to ensure programs are competitive, cost-effective, compliant, and aligned with organizational goals. This role leads all aspects of retirement plan governance, including vendor management, annual audits, nondiscrimination testing, plan document amendments, and Form 5500 filings, and manages the daily administration of the firm's benefits programs with a focus on ensuring compliance with all federal and state regulatory requirements. Additionally, this position oversees the operational efficiency of the benefits module of the ERP, Workday, and manages and directs work for the Benefits & Retirement Analyst.

This is a hybrid position located in McKinney, Texas (WFH Monday & Friday, In Office Tuesday-Thursday).

What You Will Do:

Execute the strategic vision for health & welfare, retirement, wellness, and time away from work programs.
Supervise and maintain all benefits-related information in Workday for all benefits programs. Serve as lead liaison with HR Operations team on all Workday configuration matters including issue resolution, new benefits functionality design, development and testing, benefits integration files, Open Enrollment setup, and Annual ACA filings.
Analyze plan performance, market trends, and employees need to recommend enhancements.
Lead annual benefits planning, including design changes, cost modeling, and vendor negotiations.
Oversee administration and governance of the company’s 401(k) and pension plans.
Manage relationships with recordkeepers, actuaries, investment advisors, trustees, and auditors.
Lead the annual retirement plan audit, ensuring timely and accurate completion.
Coordinate annual nondiscrimination testing and resolve any corrective actions.
Manage plan document updates, amendments, restatements, and compliance with regulatory changes.
Ensure accurate processing of contributions, distributions, loans, QDROs, and pension calculations.
Provide guidance and education to employees on retirement benefits and financial wellness. Health & Welfare Program Management
Oversee medical, dental, vision, life, disability, and supplemental benefit programs.
Manage vendor relationships, service-level performance, and contract renewals.
Lead annual open enrollment strategy, communications, and execution.
Ensure accurate eligibility management, plan setup, and payroll integration.
Oversee weekly and monthly vendor billing, reconciliation, and financial accuracy.
Evaluate plan utilization, cost trends, and opportunities for improvement.
Support the strategic design and implementation of wellness initiatives that promote physical, mental, and financial health.
Facilitate changes with Wellness vendor where appliable, promotions, vendor integration files, etc.
Track participation and evaluate program effectiveness.
Develop communications that encourage engagement and reinforce a culture of well-being. Oversee leave programs including FMLA, ADA, parental leave, disability, and other time off policies.
Ensure consistent, compliant, and employee-centered administration.
Lead wellness strategy and initiatives that support physical, mental, and financial well-being.
Partner with vendors to deliver high impact wellness programs and measure outcomes.
Process weekly and monthly vendor invoices for health and welfare plans, ensuring accuracy and timely payment.
Reconcile billing discrepancies and collaborate with vendors and payroll to resolve issues.
Maintain detailed records to support audits, budgeting, and financial reporting.
Support the strategic evaluation of vendor performance and plan costs.
Ensure compliance with ERISA, ACA, HIPAA, COBRA, IRS, DOL, and other regulatory requirements.
Oversee preparation and filing of annual Form 5500s and related schedules, Annual CMS, PBGC premium filings, and distribution of all required annual notices.
Maintain accurate plan documentation, SPDs, SBCs, and required notices.
Prepare and review compliance reports, filings, and audit documentation.
Monitor legislative and regulatory changes and recommend necessary updates.
Maintain strong internal controls and documentation to support audits and risk management.
Deliver exceptional customer service with a focus on clarity, empathy, and problem solving.
Create and maintain benefit guides, FAQs, and communication materials.
Facilitate benefits orientations and training sessions for employees and managers.
Partner with HR leadership to enhance the overall employee experience.

What You Can Bring:

Bachelor’s degree in HR, Business, Finance, or related field.
5 years of experience in benefits, retirement, or HR administration.
Licenses/Certifications not required but preferred: Retirement Plans Associate (RPA), CEBS, CRSP, or related certification, Certified Pension Consultant (CPC)
Deep knowledge of and strong understanding of ERISA, IRS, DOL, and PBGC regulations, including benefits and retirement plan compliance, regulations, and industry best practices.
Experience with HRIS and benefits administration systems (Familiarity with Workday and Fidelity).
Strong analytical skills and high attention to detail.
Prior supervisory experience a plus.
Demonstrated resourcefulness in problem-solving.
Must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication ability, customer service skills, and a record of team-oriented leadership.
Proven ability to interpret plan documents and resolve complex participant issues.
Experience managing 401(k) and pension plans, including audits and non-discrimination testing.
Strong vendor management and project management skills.
Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office with Intermediate to Advanced Excel skills required.
Experience in administering group health & welfare and retirement plans.
Excellent communication and presentation skills to educate employees.
Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams across HR, finance, and legal departments.
Technical aptitude for HCM systems (Workday) and proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Ability to work independently with limited supervision as well as collaborate within a team environment to produce results.
Ability to maintain discretion and work with highly confidential and/or protected information required.
