Unclaimed Property
If a check is returned undeliverable by the Postal Service, American Income Life will make a reasonable effort to locate the owner of the funds. Reasonable efforts can include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Checking our file to determine if we have been provided a new address
- Writing a letter to the owner at the last known address
- Attempting to contact owner by phone
- Conducting an internet search to obtain current address and/or phone
- Writing a letter to the owner's financial institution if that info is available
If a check remains un-cashed after five months, American Income Life will perform due diligence (if required by regulation) by writing a letter to the owner at the last known address. The letter informs the owner that funds are being held that have been designated as unclaimed property and it requests that they contact our office immediately.
If the unclaimed amount warrants additional efforts, we may contact the Social Security Administration (or similar government agency) in efforts to locate the rightful owner. In some instances, we may request the services of an external investigator, however, the unclaimed amounts are typically not significant and rarely warrant the cost of an external investigator.
If you believe you are the owner of unclaimed funds held by American Income Life, please contact:
